The Himalayas, Wildlife and Kerala! Linger grows

We’re now live at 3 very do-nothing, quiet locations across the country. And with this, we have our first properties in Kerala and the Himalayas now live.

Vanghat, Marchula, in the Corbett Buffer Zone

Forests all around Bridge across the Ramganga Setting

At the end of a 2 km journey on foot and a raft across the river is this seriously committed-to-forests property that respects its surroundings even while making it accessible to us. Run by a naturalist and a team that’s friendly – both with the guests as well as the forests. You’ll love the place, and learn a lot, we assure you!

Chestnut Grove, Vijaypur (Uttarakhand)

6750ft high up in a very quiet, relatively unknown part of the Himalayas is Vijaypur (or Bijepur) a small little tea town with pine and oak forests, tea estates, and old temple or two and miles of opportunity for walks, hikes and treks. Or of course, do nothing but read a book, sip on tea and enjoy the stunning views of the snow clad mountains in the distance.

The Palathra Heritage, Mararikula, Allepey (Kerala)

Amidst the very green, laidback Mararikulam village is an unassuming little space where a very passionate family has resettled old, traditional houses in a backwaters setting. Illam, Eatti, Chandanam, Maavu and Plaavu – the names themselves tell a story of a different time in a context that attempts to keep up with the same even as the world around changes rapidly. The beach is a short walk/ride away, as is the pretty Vembanad lake and the famed Kerala backwaters. What a trip!

We’re adding a few more places. Keep watching the action on our Facebook page. For reservations, as always – we’re at stay@linger.in and at +91-959-005-0001.

Art, Artists and ArtFlute. At Linger.

We have often been told that our interiors are pretty spartan and basic – and that it’s both a good and a bad thing. Truth be told, we have been so focused on the pretty context that nature always provides at the lovely places we try and find, and ensuring our guests get to experience the same close-up, that we honestly forget to pay attention to the rooms beyond basic creature comforts and local architecture.

But now we have decided to do something about it. Of course, in the usual Linger way, we decided to not go to stores, pick up commercially available stuff and nail it on to the walls. We thought it’d be best if the art was born at these places. Like the pretty sketch below from Poornima:

PoornimaGokarnaSketch

We wanted artists to spend time at the place, and their work inspired what they see, feel and experience out there – the pretty surroundings, nature at work, the ethos, occupations and people of the place.

ArtFlute Experience is helping us in this effort to liaise with artists who want to create paintings, sketches at Linger and even help us add touches to the place that only an artist can. Limited numbers of amazingly faithful reprints of he Art-From-Linger will also be available at their site, and the work will of course grace our walls.

Poornima is also our first artist-in-residence over the next week at Chettimani, Coorg. If you’re there between the 23rd-27th, she will be happy to do a short introductory session on art for you as well.

We are so looking forward to this!

Gokarna : A lot can happen in February!

Gokarna is witnessing events around the biggest of them all – the Mahashivaratri there, with the Temple Car (ratha) festival and a lot of cultural activity as supporting acts.

Check this out:

The boat race is on today, and the Yakshagana performance late into the night is a must-see! If you want to head to the coast for a delightful couple of days of catching up with the local cultural scene, and of course some sun, sand and fish, let us know right away.

As always, we’re at stay@linger.in and +91-95900-50001

Feb 2014. With love to all! (Authors, Seniors, LingerFolk)

All of Feb 2014, we’re in spread-the-love and thanks! mode.

Please come over and write!

If you’re a published author working on the next book (fiction only!) all of Feb is 35% off at all of our properties! Do share your book links with us when you send the mail – we might even get copies for our libraries!

Seniors more than welcome. And gifting vacations to them even more so.

We usually do a 15% off over weekends and 30% off over weekdays for Seniors all year. But all of Feb, it’s 25% off over weekends and 40% off all weekdays. If you gift them a vacation, we’ll up that another 5% each.

LingerFolk, of course. Our most special guests.

If you’re part of our LingerFolk (you’d have received an email for the same) – one weekend in Feb is a name-your-price one (do write in – will let you in on the dates).

And the rest of the month is a double-the-usual benefits anyhow.

More places? Soon.

2013-09-18 13.53.17

We’re actively working on adding locations – in the Nilgiris (finally!), perhaps a couple in Kerala, and not sure of the dates, but soon in Sakleshpur as well. And one up north in Palampur, Himachal, overlooking the Dhauladhars! Chettimani and Balur Estate will see two pretty rooms added as well. Stay tuned.

Looking forward to a fun February. Let cupid strike all over again 🙂
